A Sunday Afternoon in May

I can't believe it has been since March that I have blogged. Sharing here has taken a back seat to family life and work life. No doubt I've been busy with the kids, but I've also been working on a project that I will be ready to share a little more about this summer.

But for now, I thought I would stop in here and share a set of photographs from this past Sunday afternoon when my youngest daughter had lacrosse and then came home and played with her sister outside, riding bikes and racing around our front circle. These are typical scenes for us now that the weather is warm and we are enjoying life outside, where is it VERY GREEN!  Enjoy.

Scenes from a Friday Afternoon

I have neglected this blog way too much this winter. I cringed when I saw that my last post was in December. In an effort to prevent this from happening ever again, I'm committing to a more organized posting schedule that will including personal photos, client work, and tips and videos to let you inside my process. I want this blog to a mode of sharing my own family photographs and client work, thoughts and ideas to inspire you in your own photography, and having a conversation with you about the process. I know this is ridiculously vague, but it will hopefully become clearer to both of us in the coming weeks.

For now, I'm going to go ahead and post what I have. I'm not going to wait around for perfect, or the time to write something thoughtful or clever. It may never happen. I took these photographs of my daughters on Friday afternoon between 4:30 and 5:30. The day was a stunning 71 degrees in February, with blue skies. The sun was starting to set by the side of our house, through the trees you see reflected into the window in the first photograph below. The light was stunning and as you go through the photographs, you can see how it changes so quickly within the course of an hour.

Enjoy!

Hula Hooping Kids on a Warm Afternoon | Candid Child Photography Baltimore, MD

Last Sunday, the same day we went ice skating, the kids had some outside time before dinner. We broke out the scooters and hula hoops and joined our neighbors out front. What a wonderful glimpse of the spring we are all desperately anticipating. I took this golden opportunity to play around with shooting my youngest daughter from varying angles, layering the composition, and capturing her expressions.

Ice Skating with My Three Daughters at Patterson Park

WIth no plans on the schedule, I gave into the pleading and took my daughters ice skating yesterday. At my sister's suggestion, we headed to the rink at Patterson Park, where I hadn't been in years. It was a gorgeous day, and the park was filled with happy folks enjoying the weather. We, however, ventured into the cold rink.

It was the first time on the ice for my youngest two girls, and my oldest had only been on skates once before. I, myself, hadn't been on ice since I was twelve, and even then it was a dicey situation. After lacing up, we slowly ventured onto the ice, where I pushed and pulled the little one round and round while watching the oldest two figure things out.

I only took my little Fuji, whose battery died pretty quickly, so I was glad to grab the few shots that I did. I didn't get enough of them on the ice as I was too busy trying not to fall. Next time....

Collaborators & co-conspirator.

These two are complete opposites and almost never get along. So for those of you who only see the negatives of Minecraft…here's the positive:

A few minutes...

She gave me a few minutes of her time the other night.
